The resolution increase from 16-24MP was expected (and overdue) but the addition of sensor stabilization, a touch-sensitive screen, and the removal of the built-in flash make the GR III a very different photographic tool, albeit one that should feel instantly familiar to GR / II fans. If you have always wanted a high-performing compact (APSC sized sensor and above) there are only just a few choices, the Leica Q series, the Fujifilm X100 series, and the Ricoh GR series.

Another aspect that, somewhat surprisingly, stood out to me is the excellent connectivity between my smartphone (Oneplus 7) and this camera. While a lot of street photographers rave about this feature, I haven’t quite nailed it yet, but hope to practice more with it soon. This caused changes in the weight balance and holdability: there’s just less space to grip the body. I don't find autofocus as quick and reliable as on my other two mirrorless cameras, however, and I have to say that I've been somewhat disappointed with the level of performance.I don’t have particularly high standards, but the Ricoh should not be considered for people who need to shoot video. I don't know how reliable the GR III will be, but with luck, its simpler design will be less delicate than Sony's everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach. For fashion work you're shooting the OUTFIT and designs, not portraits, but even for that work I've never seen a soul working with a 28mm prime. This is not by any means a knock on the menu system, but rather praise to how thoughtfully all the physical controls can be customized.

Sometimes my settings aren’t set up correctly for the scene in front of me but I don’t have time to adjust them with precision. The GR III is the most recent generation, released in 2019, and this time we've got a pretty significant upgrade.

Also now you can account for the blinking frequency of fluorescent lamps (50 or 60 Hz) so that there won’t be any signature stripes under artificial lighting. The only issue for me is in really bright conditions it can be hard to see, though there are custom brightness options in the camera menu to ease this. It also provides an assortment of new features, such as a high-speed hybrid AF system, an originally developed SR (Shake Reduction) mechanism, and touch-screen operation for intuitive control, to improve operability and functionality.

Light and compact - your everyday carry should be so light and compact that taking it with you everywhere is a no brainer. There's also a High Contrast Black and White setting, which I'm sure will appeal to fans of Daido Moriyama. Those are the GR III (obviously) and the EOS M with the same lens as in that Wiki article - but without a flash. The Fujifilm XF 23mm F2 R WR delivers a 35mm full-frame equivalent field of view and stands out due to its small size and weather-resistant build.

effective megapixels deliver high image quality, and an anti-aliasing filterless construction delivers high-definition rendering even in the finest details. The GR III incorporates a large APS-C-size CMOS image sensor with an anti-aliasing (AA) filter-free design to enhance image resolving power, and a newly developed GR ENGINE 6 imaging engine. As I mentioned, it isn’t a feature I need all the time, but it’s part of what makes this camera a complete package.
